I put up a snowy river photo on myspace profile last night, not really thinking snow was coming yet, but because the photo is beautiful and calm to me.
This morning I woke up at 4am, wide awake (since I went to bed so early) - but I just rolled over and went back to sleep *grin* and got about 10+ hours of sleep. I woke up again & I hear the girls "Mom, mom!! IT SNOWED!" "Mom, can we go out & play in it?" "Mom where are our snowpants?"
Their voices were so full of joy & enthusiasm I couldn't help but feel a surge of happiness for them & their excitment. The turning of the seasons, something new is here.
I made fried eggs and while they ate breakfast at the table I went downstairs and pulled out the winter clothes bin; emptied the pairs of snowpants, the snowcoats, boots (some too small now) the mittens of various kinds, scarves and hats onto the floor, making a row of options for each of the girls to select from.
After breakfast they went downstairs to review the choices "Oh I remember these!" "Oh I like these" "I'm going to wear this one, no... this one!" :D They pulled on a bit of everything and my little snowbunnies went outside to play a few minutes before school. They looked adorable. I should've taken photos but I was just enjoying the moment and not worried about anything but enjoying the now.
I got into the car and the CD is cued up to song 8 and it starts to play I think "Perfect." It's the song "20 years of snow" by Regina Spektor.. perfectly calm and beautiful for our morning drive under the white lacey elm trees of our neighborhood and the big fluffly snow falling down on our windows.
Winter's here, and for the first time in many years, I'm enjoying it again.
